Images that start Adventures

As AbstractPittsburgh, I transform the familiar into portals of discovery — turning Pittsburgh bridges, rooftops, and back alleys into bold, symmetrical abstractions that stop people in their tracks. The colors and forms surprise. Then the details reveal themselves. People lean in. They explore.

It’s an adventure in recognition. Stereograms in living color. Objects that would normally go unnoticed become kaleidoscopic elements leading deeper into the image.

From public lobbies to personal desktops, this is art that doesn’t just decorate a space — it invites exploration of one of America’s most fascinating cities.

Roberto Clemente Bridge:  Few Pittsburgh sites are more iconic than the sister bridges. This image features the Roberto Clemente Bridge and the Pittsburgh skyline in the background. Available in grand dimensions, this is a statement piece.

US Steel Tower Lobby with Starbucks: Steel and symmetry collide in this kaleidoscopic view of the US Steel Tower lobby, where the iconic Starbucks glows like a modern mandala. Familiar lines and textures—from brushed metal ceilings to bold neon and cozy café seating—are mirrored into a vibrant, mind-bending composition. At first abstract, then suddenly familiar, the image invites you to pause, tilt your head, and reimagine a Pittsburgh landmark through the AbstractPittsburgh lens.

"Art that tilts your head and pull yous in"

Hillman Cancer Center Pedestrian Bridge:  A prism of light, glass, and greenery—this mirrored vision of the Hillman Cancer Center walkway offers a moment of surreal calm in a place where emotions run deep. The symmetry draws you in, the color soothes, and the illusion invites pause. In a space devoted to healing, even a glimpse of visual escape can be a kind of medicine. Let your eyes wander—and maybe your heart will follow.

Grand Concourse Detail:  Once a gateway for rail passengers, now a cathedral for cuisine—the Grand Concourse glows in this mirrored reflection of Gilded Age grandeur. Golden chandeliers and stained glass windows swirl into an ornate, symmetrical dreamscape, where history and elegance echo in every detail. What once was motion and transit now becomes stillness and indulgence. AbstractPittsburgh turns this landmark into a kaleidoscope of memory and light.

Strip District Fire Escape:  Brick, rust, shadow, and steel—this mirrored fire escape in Pittsburgh’s Strip District forms a mechanical mandala from the city's industrial bones. What was once a utilitarian fixture becomes a hypnotic pattern of repetition and rhythm, like a steampunk snowflake stamped onto an aging city wall. It’s gritty. It’s gorgeous. It’s AbstractPittsburgh transforming the everyday into visual jazz.

East Liberty on Centre: What looks like a surreal green lattice suspended in a blue void is actually a mirrored view of East Liberty—Sliberty, if you're local. The bold lines and sharp symmetry transform this familiar spot into something fantastical. It’s not just a trick of the eye; it’s a reminder that even the most everyday places can surprise you when seen from a new angle.

RAND Corporation, 5th Avenue:  This mirrored composition of the RAND Corporation in Oakland turns intellect into geometry. Linear glass, concrete logic, and organic overgrowth converge in a pattern that evokes both algorithm and ecosystem. It’s a visual metaphor for RAND itself: structured thought shaped by a living world. Step back, and it’s just a building. Step in, and it’s a mental model made manifest.

Ornate Tree in Regent Square: In a quiet yard in Regent Square, someone painted a tree—and in doing so, accidentally created a portal. This mirrored image magnifies the wonder of that spontaneous act, turning whimsy into symmetrical spectacle. Neon branches, natural curves, and suburban order collide in a kaleidoscope that proves: art doesn't have to ask permission. Sometimes the most captivating moments come from the most random things.

Subjects from nearly every Pittsburgh neighborhood

Randyland, North Side:  A kaleidoscopic tribute to the North Side’s most colorful landmark—and the man behind it. This mirrored view of Randyland celebrates the explosive whimsy of Randy Gilson, a true Pittsburgh ambassador of joy, creativity, and kindness. What begins as chaotic color resolves into structured wonder, echoing Randy’s mission: to uplift, inspire, and turn ordinary walls into radiant declarations of hope.

Industry Public House:  This mirrored image from Industry Public House fuses the grit of Pittsburgh’s steel legacy with the warmth of modern pub culture. Industrial valves, brick walls, and glassware align in symmetrical homage to the city’s past and present—where molten iron meets craft beer. It’s not just décor; it’s identity. A place where heavy metal still flows—now from taps.

Sewickly II - Random street scene:  Snapped on the fly, this mirrored floral storefront in Sewickley bursts with color and symmetry, a fleeting glimpse of everyday charm turned art. There was no grand setup—just a walk, a wall, and a window box doing more than it had to. Imagine what could happen if we slowed down, looked closer, and gave that same attention to something truly meaningful. What story would your surroundings tell if you really took the time?

Abstract Pittsburgh  presents Pittsburgh and other interesting cities using a unique perspective. My intent is to pull viewers in with a striking visual and present elements of the image that happens at the intersection of the images.

The Asylumnist is an intimate study of the nearly 170-year old Trans Allegheny Asylum. I visited this - and every other WV State Hospital - as a psych undergrad. These places don't leave an impression. They leave a mark.

Pittsburgh Car Photography celebrates the automobile. From pristine luxury to daily driver vintage, there is an exhilaration here as varied and stunning as the sounds these cars make.

Focused Studies: This is everything else. Places including New York City, Savannah GA, and Charleston WV. Shipwrecks. Sunsets. Sunrises.
